The Bruins are a really good team. As Aaron Ward put it in between the 2nd and 3rd periods last night, they're a "gritty team, not a pretty team." Last night they looked pretty unlucky. Despite pounding Cam Ward, the Hurricanes' star goaltender, with a plethora of good shots, 36 in total for the game, none of them found the back of the net. The B's only compounded their misfortune by allowing a shorthanded goal on a key power play that could have tied the game.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a bad game for the Bruins. Andy Brickley made a good point of saying it was more that Carolina came with more "jam" (oh Jesus did they say "jam" a lot last night on the broadcast; the lady friend even caught me saying it at one point). They raised their game significantly from Game 1, and it caught the Bruins by surprise. Perhaps it was the long series against the Devils that wore the Hurricanes down, but they certainly looked energetic last night. I still think the Bruins will recover, but these next couple games down in Raleigh should be quite entertaining.
Let's Go Bruins!
